My name is Nadia Nader. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT # 119631) currently practicing in California. I graduated with a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Santa Clara University. I specialize in working with adults and adolescents struggling with anxiety disorders, substance misuse disorders, bipolar disorder, and PTSD. I am a trauma informed therapist and work well with those hoping to process issues of intergenerational and multigenerational traumas, as well as personal struggles of assimilation, displacement, migration and life transitions.
I do have vast experience working with different populations including providing therapy services to elementary and high school children, couples and families, working with at risk youth, working with substance abuse recovery clinics and correctional facilities, and currently providing onsite mental health services in the tech industry. I have also worked as an onsite counselor for tech companies and global teams; providing counseling, coaching, mindfulness, and meditation services.
Before deciding to be a licensed therapist, I received my PhD in legal history from the University of California, Santa Barbara. For more than a decade, I researched and wrote about historical memory and how it affects our current understanding of people’s personal and communal pasts. Through my analysis of historical manuscripts, I discovered that history and the world are not only composed of chronology, events or atoms, but rather of stories, personal stories of feat and defeat and collective stories of being and belonging. I discovered that these stories are the essence of human analysis. I also discovered that the past is relevant and alive and is a remarkable force that can help us unpeel the unifying power of human behavior. This led me to develop a genuine interest in the psychology of memory and memory process, in medical anthropology and the history of mental health in different parts of the world. I am curious and open to learning more about human nature as I get to know and learn from my clients.
