Purple Pain Group: Healing the Trauma of Intimate Partner Violence.

Purple is an evocative color. It evokes grief, violence, ambivalence but also romance and healing. In this group, we will meet weekly to work on your healing and understanding the emotions familiar violence brings into your intimate relationships. Not only victims and survivors of Intimate violence need support and healing, but also the wrongdoers. We often focus solely on “empowering” the victims to recognize and end abusive relationships, which is absolutely essential and legitimate, and also much needed. But the important question is why all this unnecessary anxiety that wrongdoers “will not change,” that they are incapable human beings with no power to engage in active behavior change.

In this group, I will work with you, using process model and benefiting from bibliotherapy interventions models, to change behaviors and break cycles of trauma as means for intervention for clients displaying PTSD symptoms. In this group, I will work with you to break communal cycles of intimate partner violence, hence reducing trauma for both the victims, the survivors and also importantly change the behaviors of the perpetrators, who are often ostracized and left with no support, hence inciting similar patterns of behavior and exhibit different symptoms of trauma.

This group aims to break cycles of domestic, societal and institutional dysfunctions related to intimate partner violence (IPV). IPV is a behavior that impacts the mental well being of those who experience it firsthand or second hand (including those who perpetuate it). Let us connect to create new behaviors, thoughts and emotions for more vibrant healed relationships.
